A woman died in Australia and thousands were forced to escape their homes after heavy rainfall caused floods in North -queensland.
Authorities warn that flood waters can rise to a second level in a situation called dangerous and life -threatening.
Over the past 24 hours, more than 700 mm (26 inches) has fallen in the North -Qeensland part and is concerned that Queensland Prime Minister David Crisfulli says “record rains” will continue on Monday.
According to meteorologists, these may be the worst floods in the region in more than 60 years.
According to Crisfulli, the conditions are no different from what North -queensland has experienced “for a long time”.
“This is not only the intensity, but also the long life,” ABC told Australian broadcaster.
Thousands of people in Townsville leave their home on Sunday afternoon, while authorities have brought in 100,000 sandbags to block floods.
Parts of the road between the Townsville and the Cairns Tourism Center were cut off, obstructing efforts from placing rescue teams and sandbags.
