The jury’s selection began at the American hearing, accused of stabbing writer Sir Salman Rushdie.
Military Matar is accused of murder and attack during the event in August 2022, which was blinded by Mr Rushdie’s eyes.
Mr. Matar, 27, declared the accusations not guilty.
In the Chautauqua County Court, which was twice late, Mr. Rushdie is said to give evidence and confront the accused in court.
Originally, it was planned to begin in January 2024, but Mr Matar’s defense team appealed to delay the trial on the basis that Mr Rushdie’s upcoming book – memory of the attack – could be first used as evidence.
Then, in October, the trial was suspended after Mr Matar’s legal team made a request to move the trial to another county.
As reported by the New York Post, Mr. Matar’s lawyers said the defendant risked an unfair negotiation in Chautauqua County Court in Mayville, given the publicity around the high-ranking case and the lack of Arab-American community in the small county.
The application failed and the trial began in Chautauqua County Court, which is located in a village with a resident of about 1,500 people.
Five jurors were selected on Tuesday and the jury selection will continue on Wednesday, local time (14:30 GMT).
In August 2022, the Indian-born British-American author was placed on a fan and spent six weeks in the hospital after being stabbed ten times on stage at a New York event.
Mr Matar, who was 24 at the time, is accused of performing sprint and attack on stage.
The injuries resulted in Rushdie’s liver damage, one in the face of lost vision and paralyzed hands caused by the nerve damage of his arm.
The author of Satanic poems had previously told BBC Newshour that he was not sure he wanted to face the alleged attacker in court.
“I’m in two thoughts,” he said. “There’s a little one who really wants to go and stand on the pitch and look at it, and there is another little one you just can’t bother.”
Henry Reese, moderator of the event, Rushdie, also attended the New York West Chautauqua institution, and was also injured in the attack.
Separate with Chautauqua County court charges, Mr. Matar was accused by a federal court for the Lebanese-based Hezbollah militant group, Hezbollah, According to the indictment closed last July.
Hezbollah is referred to as a terrorist organization of Hezbollah, Israel, Gulf countries and the Arab League.
Mr. Rushdie, now a 77 -year -old, a renowned writer who had previously spent several years after the 1988 Poems of Satania – a fictional story inspired by the life of the Prophet Muhammad Muslim – caused threats against his life.
The surrealistic postmodern novel caused outrage among some Muslims, who were considered blasphemous – a religion or an insult – and banned him in some countries.
One year after the book was published, the Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini called for the implementation of Mr Rushdie. It offered a $ 3 million (£ 2.5 million) reward in a Fatwa – a legal decree issued by an Islamic religious leader.
