The federal judge prevented Elon Musk from accessing personal financial data from millions of Americans in the Ministry of Finance, according to court records.
US district judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued a preliminary order on Saturday to prohibit access and ordered Musk and his team to immediately destroy copies of records.
The move occurs when 19 state lawyers sued Trump’s administration after Doge, a cost -reducing initiative led by Musk, received access to records.
It was claimed that MUSK, “special government employee” and DOGE access, which is an unofficial government department, violated federal law.
The White House, President Donald Trump or President Musk did not have an immediate comment.
Democratic state lawyers sued Trump, the Treasury Ministry and the Treasury Secretary on Friday.
The early order of Engelmayer on Saturday said that states would face “irreparable” damage without immediate relief.
“Both are due to the risk that the new policy of disclosing sensitive and confidential information and the increased risk that the systems in question will be more vulnerable than before hacking,” the order reads.
The order prevents the defendants from accessing the treasury class records, which are personally identifiable or confidential information for special government employees, political appointed and other workers.
The provision limits anyone else to access to records, except for civil servants who have to do this for their work at the Fiscal Services Office and have been conducted background checks.
The judge also ordered that copies of the records should be immediately destroyed.
The conditions will remain in place until the next Court trial next February 14.
