President Donald Trump called Federal Reserve on Tuesday saying that the central bank should reduce interest rates.
“The interest rates should be lowered, which would go with the upcoming tariffs !!!” Trump said in the social registration of the truth. “Have Rock and Roll, America !!!”
The president’s comments arrived one day after Fed president Jerome Powell said at Capitol Hill that the central bank did not have to “hurry” to reduce interest rates.
Federal Reserve keeps interest rates in the midst of inflation uncertainty
“We don’t have to hurry to change our political position,” Powell admitted to the Senate Bank Committee. “We know that a reduction in political restrictions can prevent inflation from progressing too fast or too much. At the same time, reducing political restrictions can unjustifiably weaken economic activity and employment.”
At its last January meeting, Fed officials kept the interest rate between 4.25% and 4.5% in the reference base.
Trump says he won’t fire President Jerome Powell
Three consecutive interest rate cuts will be followed by the Central Bank’s recent meetings, with a 50 basis point reduction in September and a pair of 25 basis points in November and December.
