The Bluesky social network will soon provide users with greater checks on who can respond to their comments. Bluesky developer Paul Frazee has confirmed that Bluesky will add a new “followers” setting that users can configure to limit the answers. In addition, he says Bluesky creates a mode for users to set default response settings. This means that if you always want to limit it to followers, you can only limit it to followers.
These changes help to further distinguish the application from its biggest competitors, Elon Musk X and META fibers.
At X, users can choose between the series of respondents, including the “everyone”, the “accounts you follow”, “checked accounts” and “only the accounts you mentioned”. You can also send it to communities that are a member and which also restricts their availability.
Meanwhile, users can choose from the “anyone”, the “profiles you follow” and “only mentioned”.
So far, Bluesky has adopted similar settings to its rivals, allowing users to “everyone”, “no”, “mentioned users” and “users”. (In addition, you can combine the last two options with the listed lists.)
The offering the “only followers” option is a new screw, and according to Frazee, “virus may become less intense” while reducing the “context collapse”. This suggests when a viral message goes far beyond the original target audience who can misunderstand the post or confuse.
The developer notes that the change only limits who can react to an entry – this does not affect, who can view it.
Bluesky users have been recommending the “only followers” response option for some time. Frazee himself discussed with users the opportunity December 2023Or
Powers Bluesky is also updated behind the protocol to support the service along the road.
