Grenade attack in the Granble Bar 12 ncvrs.com

Twelve people were injured after a grenade was thrown into a busy bar in Grenoble, local authorities said.

The incident at the Akshir Bar, shortly after the local time (19:00 GMT), happened on Wednesday night, leaving two people in critical condition.

The motif of the attack is not clear, but investigators say this may “be related to the scores”.

Prosecutor Francois Touret-de-Courcey said eyewitness reports suggest that the suspect, who is not yet identified, could probably carry a Kalashnikov offensive rifle.

Speaking with journalists on the scene, he said, “There is nothing to think that it is related to terrorism” and describes the event as “acting extreme violence.”

He added that investigators are investigating possible relationships with drug trafficking.

Authorities say there were many people on the spot, near the city’s Olympic village when the suspect briefly entered.

About 80 firefighters and police officers were installed on the scene, staying on Thursday morning, French paper, Le Figaro.

Deputy Mayor Chloe Pantel told the AFP news agency that the venue was “a place where locals and people outside the area gather, especially to watch football matches.”

The presence of the police in the area remains for a while, he added.

Mayor Eric Piolle condemned what he called “an extraordinary violent crime” before thanking the rescue and security forces for “quick intervention”.
