The Boston Skating Club pays tribute to Spencer Lane

In the Boston Skating Club, no one has doubted that 13 -year -old Jinna Han and 16 -year -old Spencer Lane are far from going in love with.

Even in a club that produced countless elite skaters – where the race is as hard as it will – the two were standing.

“They were looking for and identified as the future of sport,” said Doug Zeghibe, the club’s CEO, while standing on the ice rink, where the two athletes were trained day by day.

“So, to see such promising talents, they are really at the peak of greatness, and they finally achieve their goals not only to represent the Boston Skating Club, but also to represent their country.”

This talent, at the full display of videos, showing that both of them were over -age and maturity, was invited to the high -performance camp that followed the United States’ national figure championship in Kansas in Wichita.

After the camp, they boarded an American Airlines regional jet aircraft on Wednesday night and planned to return home to Massachusetts via Washington DC. There were 60 passengers who killed him when the jet had collided with a helicopter in the middle air and fell into the Potomac river.

Moms, Christine Lane and Jin Han, as well as club Star coaches, Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova were also on board, so six of the victims of the accident were associated with the world -famous skating club.

Such a high level of skating requires tremendous commitment, as school is done online every day after hours.

There are inevitably close relationships between coaches and club members, and the clubhouse is a natural place to collect such a disaster.

Just a few days ago, club members, Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov, won the US Pairs Championship title in Wichita before launching an earlier trip home.

“There were only two sunshine from which you get energy as soon as you see them,” Efimova said.

“Every time I go into this ice rink, I could see them in the morning to connect the skating, saying,” Hello “, seeing their faces light up.”

“Spencer was a firecracker, which is the best way to do it,” Mitrofanov added.

“Later he began to skate rather than other skaters, but because of his wonderful talent, he was so fast.”

At the end of a difficult daily workout, I was told that the two of them would take off the skates and move up to catch up with academic work.

Now, at the entrance of the club, photos moving on the ice are surrounded by respects and flowers. Jinna stretched out her arm. Spencer maintains deep attention to his face.

“You don’t expect it,” Mitrofanov said. “And when this happens, it broke you.”

Naumov and Shishkova coaches, originally from Russia, were the 1994 World Pairs champions. A 23 -year -old son, Maxim, is left by another promising talent from Boston, who was fourth in the Wichita men’s race.

Over 100 years of history, the club has already seen how success can be shielded quickly in the tragedy.

There were 10 members of the Skating Team of the US 18 members, killed in an airplane accident on the road to the 1961 Prague World Cup.

CEO Zeghibe immediately thought about the accident when he watched the emerging news on Wednesday night.

“My first thought was that it wouldn’t repeat,” he said. “And I was like how to strike twice for lightning?”

Many of the club’s well -known alumni, Nancy Kerrigan, was also in the club to show her solidarity and mourn the loss of six lives.

Before the silver medal of the 1994 Winter Olympics, an attacker struck a stick with his knees after an exercise. Later, it turned out that the attacker was rented by Kerrigan’s rival Tonya Harding.

“The community was behind me and I was grateful for it,” he said.

“And that’s right, my turn is to hopefully be here. I’m not sure what you need to do. You may get a cup of coffee or hugs. Here I am hug I feel like I got it.

In just a few weeks, the club will organize a skating championship in the city in March.

Huge responsibility.

“All of this requires us a lot, not only in the leadership of the club, not only in the World Cup, but also in the management of mourning,” Zeghie said when I asked him how they would cope.

The event gets a chance to honor the lost lives, not just from this club. A total of 14 members of the skating community were killed in the accident.

“I think it’s part of the emotional healing process for the future,” he said, “and it’s good to have things that can focus on sports. “

“We will take it day by day, we will be there to our members as much as possible, and then figure out how to move on?”
