India to launch a new domain name for banks to overcome digital fraud ncvrs.com

As of April 2025, the Indian Central Bank will introduce an exclusive “.Bank.in” domain banks as part of the efforts to combat increasing digital payment fraud and confidence in online banking services.

The Banking Institute of Technology Development and Research (IDRBT) serves as an exclusive clerk of the new domain, said Reserve Bank in India in a statement on Wednesday. The central bank is planning a separate “Fin.in” domain for non -bank financial institutions.

“Cases of increased fraud of digital payments are of great concern,” said Sanjay Malhotra, RBI governor, adding that the new domain system aims to reduce cyber security threats and malicious activities such as phishing. The step occurs when India struggles with digital payment fraud and predatory lending applications.

The Central Bank has stated that it will issue detailed guidance to banks for the new initiative, which aims to distinguish users from differentiating legitimate banking websites from fraud.
