President Donald Trump’s proposal, which the United States “take over” and “its own” in Gazae, encountered shock and condemnation during the process.
The comments come when the ceasefire is in progress between Hamas and Israel and in the future questions after the Gaza Conflict.
The UN estimates that two thirds of the buildings were destroyed or injured after a fight of about 15 months.
Trump’s vague proposal may indicate the biggest change in the United States, the major change in the United States over the decades, and may be a widespread international consensus for the need for the Palestinian state – gas and occupied West Bank – to exist with Israel.
According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the idea is “worth paying attention”, but it was carefully rejected by Arab nations and some American allies.
If Donald Trump is right about one thing, then the United States Israel and Palestinians diplomacy have not been able to resolve the conflict for decades.
Peace and presidents came and left, but the problems arose. Hamas’s attack on Israel was the terrible results of October 7, 2023 and the war in Gaza.
Trump made millions as a real estate developer and made a perfectly valid observation in the hat: if the gas is rebuilt, from scratch from scratch, it is for hundreds of thousands of civilian populations to provide shelter in debris –
The task of rebuilding gas will be monumental. Unsurused ammunition and debris mountains must be removed. Water and electrical wires must be repaired. Schools, hospitals and shops need to be rebuilt.
Trump’s near -east delegate, Steve Witkoff, said it would take years – and as long as it continues, the Palestinians have to go somewhere.
Instead of finding a way to keep them near the house, it is almost certainly in the camps in the central and south of the Gaza Strip, according to Trump, they must be encouraged to leave permanently.
Trump believes that in their absence, an idyllic, US-owned “the Middle East Riviera” rises from ash, providing thousands of jobs, investment opportunities and finally the place of “people for the world”.
Where should I start?
For even a president who spent most of his first term of office with US near -east politics, including the transfer of the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights, which was a surprising proposal.
In their wildest imagination, no US president thought that the resolution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict would include taking over a piece of the Palestinian territory and the eviction of the population.
It would be a serious violation of the world’s right to make it strongly.
Some Palestinians are likely to decide to leave Gaza and rebuild their lives elsewhere. It has been 150,000 since October 2023.
But others do not know or not, because they lack financial assets, or because their attachment to Gaza – part of the Earth called Palestine – is simply too strong.
Many of the Gazana are descendants of people who fled in 1948 or led from their homes during the establishment of the State of Israel – this period is called the Palestinians Nakba, the Arabic word of the disaster.
The other’s thought will be too painful for many, and they will insist on their reduced lives with intense determination.
For the Palestinians who dream of their own condition, besides Israel, the loss of some of it feels amputation.
Gaza has been physically separated from the West Bank since 1948. Earlier rounds of negotiations and the plans for Trump 2020 “Peace Income” include plans for tunnels or railways that can connect the two.
Now Trump basically tells the Palestinians to give up Gaza once and for all.
Although it does not seem to support forced deportation of civilians, which is contrary to international law, Trump clearly encourages the Palestinians to leave.
Palestinian officials have already accused Israel of blocking the supply of tens of thousands of caravans that could help the Gazana in the less damaged parts of the area, while the rebuilding takes place elsewhere.
Arab countries, whom Trump claims, 1.8 million Gaza refugees should be accepted, especially Egypt and Jordan, expressed outrage.
Both have enough problems without this added load.
His gas was occupied by Egypt for 19 years before Israel seized in the 1967 six -day war.
This is still under Israel under international law in which Israel disputes. He says the occupation ended in 2005 when he unilaterally demolished the Jewish settlements and pulled his military out.
About three quarters of the UN members recognize Gaza as part of Palestine sovereign state, although not the United States.
Cut the outside world with fences and an Israeli sea blockade, and it has never felt like a really independent place.
Nothing and no one moves in or out without Israel’s permission, and an international airport – in 1998, was destroyed by Israel in 2001 during the second Palestinian uprising.
Israel and Egypt have introduced a blockade to gas, citing security reasons, after Hamas won Palestinian elections in 2006 and released their rivals from the area after an intense struggle.
Well before the last war, the gas of the Palestinians was considered an open prison.
It goes without saying that the United States has no legal need for the area, and it is not at all clear how Trump wants to introduce American rule.
As in the Bullish statements that are being controlled by the United States over Greenland or the Panama channel, it is not yet clear that Trump really means or if the comments are an opening, foreign negotiation position before negotiations on the future of Gaza He has bruising negotiations.
Various plans were discussed about the management of the Gaza after the war.
In December, the two main Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fatah, agreed to establish a joint committee to oversee the administration – an agreement that has not yet been created.
In other cases, discussions focused on creating an international peacekeeping force that is likely to form Arab countries.
Last month, Reuters reported that the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Israel had discussed the establishment of a temporary administration in Gaza while the reformed Palestinian authority (PA) is already under control in the West Bank is ready.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously publicly insisted that PA would not play a role in the post-war Gaza.
In a limited sense, American boots are already on Earth. An American security company employed about 100 former American special strengths to develop a vital checkpoint south of Gaza city and filter the vehicles of the Palestinians returning north for weapons.
Egyptian security personnel were also seen at the same checkpoint.
These may be the first experimental signs of the expanded international presence in Gaza.
But this is hardly an American takeover that requires a large -scale military intervention in the near -east – the kind of thing Trump has long told voters that he wanted to avoid.
Negotiations on the second phase of the two -week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have barely started, but it is difficult to see how Trump’s bombing remarks help them promote them.
If Hamas feels that the end product of the whole process is a depicted Gaza – not only of Hamas, but of all the Palestinians – not to talk and follow the remaining hostages on October 7, 2023.
Criticism of Netanyahu accused him of seeking excuses to blast the negotiations and continue the war. They must be concluded that with these comments, Trump is willing to be complicit.
On the other hand, right -wing supporters of the Israeli Prime Minister have expressed satisfaction with the US takeover plan, potentially reducing the risk of cancellation of the cabinet, and making Netanyahu’s direct political future.
In this sense, Trump gave Netanyahu a strong encouragement to continue the ceasefire.
When asked the United States, he must recognize the Israeli sovereignty at the occupied West Bank, Trump said he did not have to take a position, but announce it in four weeks.
This comment triggered an alarm among the Palestinians, who are inevitably considered to be another nail in the coffin for a two -state solution.
Recognizing the legitimacy of the settlements of Israel West Bank would be an extremely consequent step. The rest of the world considers them illegal under international law, although Israel disputes it.
During earlier rounds of peaceful negotiations, negotiators have admitted that Israel would keep the big sorting blocks as part of the final agreement, probably in exchange for small pieces of the Israeli territory.
In 2020, Trump mediated the Abraham agreement, which provides historical normalization of relations between Israel and two Arab nations, the United Arab Emirates (United Arab Emirates) and Bahrain.
The United Arab Emirates has signed this agreement on understanding Israel, not to attach parts of the West Bank – this understanding may now be in danger.
